Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage

Below is our Wrap of the games that took place in week 5 of the 2023/24 season.
Saturday 28th October 2023
York Eagles v Doncaster Eagles
U14 Jr NBL North Conference 1
Result: 50-55 (L)
Player of the game: James Wormald (14pts,9rebs,2stls)
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14s performance:
“The Lads knew what was required to win the game, as we went through the assignments. We did some of it but didn’t do the big one which was to stop letting one player dictate the game (which he did). As a coach, I try to be the ‘perfectionist’, because I know what the group are capable of… however, I was very proud of the team's effort in the manner in which we lost; we gained character which we have been missing.”
York Eagles V Liverpool
U14 Jr NBL Girls North Conference
Result: 81-44 (W)
Player of the game: Maya Foulkes (27pts/4rebs/7asts)
Coach Ghada Khattab Commented on the U14s Performance:
“The girls gave another excellent performance this weekend. After a tricky first quarter which was a bit rushed and disorganised, we recovered quickly and maintained a brilliant offence till the end of the game. I’m very proud of the girls for getting better at listening to advice and applying it. We improved key areas of defence that were allowing cutters in and everyone made fantastic rebounds followed by ruthless fastbreaks. We were spoiled in the game with 4 players getting double figures with Maya leading the way with 27pts but closely followed by Danika, Amelie and Grace.”
York Eagles @ Leeds LDM
U18 JR NBL Northern Premier
Result: 69-52 (W)
Player of the game: THE TEAM
Coach Kostas Kotidis commented on the U18s Performance:
“The team finally opened an account in the premier league! Let’s hope and look to “deposit” more… Our defence created good things for us throughout and forced bad habits out of Leeds. At the same time, we won't be able to win these type of games we continue to miss 20+ free throws a game. Could have been more comfortable. A big thank you to the 3 U16s Prem players that stepped up and gave us their efforts to a depleted team.”
Sunday 22nd October 2023
York Eagles V Manchester Magic
U16 JR NBL Northern Premier
Result: 45-66 (L)
Player of the Game: Emilis Vildziunas (14pts/10rebs/3blks)
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U16s Performance:
“The guys just came up short against the best team in the league on Sunday. After a strong first quarter, Manchester got away from us in the 2nd and fatigue set in during the final quarter which meant we could not sustain a rally. Some poor finishing from both sides meant the game was low-scoring as Magic dropped 100+ in every other game this season. Heart from the team, inspiration from Ias and George on D, Emilis top scoring resulted in a bold effort from us."
York Eagles II V Bradford Dragons II
U16 Jr NBL North Conference 1
Result: 82-28 (W)
Player of the Game: Jack Armstrong (22pts/12rebs)
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16s Performance:
“Three wins in a row and the boys are starting to play more as a team now. Good defensive effort limiting them to 28, and not picking up fouls. Offensively need to take what the defence offers and not force the issue by taking poor shots. But really pleased with the team's progression.”
