Basketball England Level 1 Accreditation
[2025-Apr-01T19:18Z - M. Evans - Update. The Level 1 Accreditation form was submitted to Basketball England on March 27th. We are waiting for a response from Basketball England to confirm acceptance.]
Basketball England has implemented a new program and now requires all clubs to meet accreditation Level 1 standards before March 30, 2025 to be eligible to participate in the 2025-26 season. Full details about this program are available from Basketball England here. This has NOT been submitted to Basketball England yet (as of 2025-Mar-23) as there are still some pending requirements that the club has not met and doesn't have volunteers for. Please review the details below to see if you might be able to help and contact theyorkeagles@gmail.com if you might be willing to volunteer for the positions.
To be a Level 1 Accredited Club, York Eagles must meet the following requirements:
- Structure: Club has a Constitution - DONE - This is already available on the website in York Eagles | Resources and from the direct link here.
- Club Development: Club has a Club Development Plan - DONE. Club Secretary and Head Coach Dave Smith has created the following Club Development plan for the 2025-26 season which is available upon request.
- People: Club has a governing committee or leadership team consisting of a minimum of three people, usually a chair, a secretary and a treasurer - PENDING. The club treasurer is planning to remain in the role for the 2025-26 season, but the Club Secretary, Dave Smith, and the Club Chairpeople, Steve Wragg and Matt Evans, are no longer willing to continue in their roles and are stepping down. While we think we can submit the accreditation with current role holders for March 30th, finding replacements for these roles is critical for the Club for next season.
- Safeguarding: Club onboards a Club Welfare Officer who completes the Basketball England Safeguarding and Club Welfare Officer Training; Club will Adopt the Basketball England Safeguarding Policy and make policy visible for members - PENDING. While Dave Smith has volunteered to be an interim Club Welfare Officer, he does not want to remain in the role and would not be eligible due to conflict of interest as one of the coaching team. Finding a replacement for the Club Welfare Officer is critical for the club next season. The document has been posted York Eagles | Resources with a direct link to the document here that is pending review by the Club.
- EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Lead (Can be Chair, Treasurer or Secretary) - PENDING. The current Chair, Treasurer or Secretary have not volunteered for this role and it remains unfilled. We need a volunteer for this position immediately as we cannot complete the Level 1 Accreditation without it.
- Financial Management: Club operates accounts through an independent club account - DONE. The club runs a completely separate account managed by our Treasurer.
- Policies and Procedures: Club adopts the below Basketball England policies or develops their own in sector - PENDING. These documents need to be reviewed and adopted by
- The Basketball England ED&I Policy
- The Basketball England Data Protection Policy
- The Basketball England Safer Recruitment Policy
- The Basketball England Whistleblowing Policy
- The Basketball England Disciplinary Code
The benefits to the Club for this accreditation process are the following:
