Eagles Weekly Wrap 2023-10-25
Wednesday 25th October 2023
Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage

A slightly less frantic week of York Basketball as there were NO U14 fixtures, which gave some newer teams a chance to play this weekend.
Below is our Wrap of the games that took place in week 4 of the 2023/24 season.
Saturday 21st October 2023
York Eagles II v Barnsley Advance
U13 Yorkshire Regional League
Result: 82-29 (W)
Player (s) of the game: James Clayton (10pts/5stls) & Bertie Hardisty (19pts/5rebs/5stls)
Coach Steve Hardisty commented on the U13s performance:
“After a makeshift U13s team picked up their first win at Barnsley Leaders a few weeks back, this time around we had a full team of U13s/U14s B to choose from and those that played comfortably dispatched Barnsley, who lacked basketball experience and failed to give us a threat on the court, we demonstrated at times today that we know how to play good basketball – executing transition well. Was also good to see James Clayton and Jake Robinson play; James getting some more court time alongside our established squad and Jake for stepping up as he’s showing his potential.”
York Eagles II @ City of Leeds Black
U16 Jr NBL Boy North Conference 1
Result: 54-42 (W)
Player of the game: Sam Giannini (11pts/8rebs)
Coach Reece Horton Commented on the U16s Performance:
“The general team improvement continues. Played well defensively both the help defense and rebounding. Moved the ball on offence and worked to get each other open. At times in the second half too much standing and watching on offence. Good win.”
York Eagles @ Trafford Magic
U16 JR NBL Northern Premier
Result: 83-56 (L)
Player of the game: -
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U16s Performance:
“A very uncharacteristic performance on both ends. Offensively we had too many turnovers and missed too many free throws leaving us short of points, lots to work on over the next week so we can respond next week.
Sunday 22nd October 2023
York Eagles V Charnwood Riders
U18 JR NBL Northern Premier
Result: 62-68 (L)
Player of the Game: Korbin Evans (18pts/7rebs)
York Eagles V Scarborough Seahawks
U16 Yorkshire Development Exhibition
Result: 61-58 (W)
Player of the Game: Ralph Smith (16pts)
Coach Azaan Iyer commented on the U16s Performance:
“The game was an experience for most of the players on the team as it was the first game that our squad had played together. The nervousness showed in the first half, but a strong team mentality and hard work made us close the gap in the second half as the Seahawks gave us a tough time. Big thanks to all the players who showed up including some more of the experienced players. We’re only going to get better from here!”
Rounding off Week 4 of the season, Associate Head Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage was satisfied with this week.
“Good to see 2 of the teams that don’t often get much look at for games, actually get games and to win both is even better! A hard week for both our Premier teams but they’ll both get back into training and push harder to get back on the winning side. Was also great to see U14s spend a day together going paintballing – fantastic use of a weekend off. Also, we have now released our new merchandise as of Monday and all parents have been sent a copy of the catalog and order forms, please send them back as soon as possible.”
