Eagles Weekly Wrap 2024-02-07

Wednesday 7th February 2024

Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage

OUR WEEKLY ROUNDUP – CHECK OUT THE SCORES AND COACHES’ COMMENTS ON THE TEAM’S PERFORMANCES.

SATURDAY 3rd FEBRUARY 2024

York Eagles II V Newcastle Eagles II

U14 Jr NBL North Conference I

Result: 30-87 (Loss)

Player of the game:

Maks Molka – 6pts/1asts/4rebs

Coach Steve Hardisty commented on the U14s II performance:

“A very difficult game which showed with our first-half performance as we struggled to get out the blocks and we just allowed Newcastle to run layup lines on us for the majority of the first half due to poor passing and poor off-ball movement. After a quick chat at half time second half, we really improved as we only lost the second half by five points. The reason why we improved in the second half was because we started to do the correct things by moving the ball quicker, finding more spaces and even looking to run some transition now and again. As positive it was a better scoreline than the previous game as we conceited well over 100 points, and we were targeted to keep them under 100pts before the game."

York Eagles II @ Bradford Dragons II

U16 Jr NBL North Conference I

Result: 69-30 (Win)

Player of the game:

Maximos Kotidis – 6pts/3asts/3rebs

Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16s II performance:

“A slow start with it only being 7-7 after the 1st Q, we played down to their level with sloppy play on both ends, however, fortunes changed as they guys got focused as we won the 2nd more convincingly. This led through the 2nd half as we went comfortably through the rest of the game, credit to the team as we have been hit with injuries and illnesses so players that did play stepped up today. Max was MVP as he stepped up as Point Guard and dictated the game well.”

Notable performances:

Noah Cronwright – 17pts

Jack Armstrong – 12pts

York Eagles @ Manchester Magic

U16 Jr NBL Northern Premier

Result: 45-103 (Loss)

Players of the Game:

Ias Morys – 12pts/5asts/2rebs

Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U16s performance:

“Effort, application, team spirit 10/10 today. Ultimately, we came up against a team that scored over 50% of their threes. We came out of the blocks really fast, and Manchester didn’t know what hit them but eventually, they found their grove and clicked as we struggled to cope with their defensive presses into corners on the half-court line. Our hustle, drive, and commitment to each other meant we stayed together as a unit and finished the game with as much belief as we started it. Every young man that played today deserved to be there and playing in a York Eagles shirt.”

York Eagles v Liverpool

U14 Jr NBL Girls North Conference I

Result: 100-43

Players of the game:

Maya Foulkes – 35pts/5asts/3rebs

Amelie Hetherton – 20pts/5asts/3blks

Danika Croft – 24pts/4asts

Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U14s Girls Performance:

“The girls were set a target for this encounter, and that was to improve on this score, compared to the last encounter with Liverpool in which they smashed! I’m really proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the whole game, and they fought very hard on both offense and defence which led to winning comfortably and even scoring 100 points for the second time this season.”

York Eagles v Spen Valley Vipers

U12 Yorkshire

Result: 45-39 (Win)

Player of the Game:

Judah Wilson – 10Rebs/1ast/1stl

Coach Kaiden Farrington commented on the U12s performance:

“We started off very strong in the first quarter, getting a strong lead over Spen Valley. Throughout the game from then, it was scrappy, staying in the lead but always having them going on runs due to poor transition offence and defence. Overall, a big improvement from what we have been in the past, so we look to move on and get better as a team!”

Notable performances:

George FitzThomas- 21pts

Billy Kemp – 8pts/10rebs

Adam Kahil – 8pts/6rebs

SUNDAY 4th FEBRUARY 2024

York Eagles @ Killamarsh Arrows

U12 Girls Regional

Result: 20-76 (Loss)

Player of the game:

Alex Dunlop Gibson – 11pts

Coach Abi Stewart commented on the U12s Girls performance:

“The girls played very well against a bigger and more experienced Arrows side. They brought a lot of energy and effort considering we were quite shorthanded. Every player provided something for the team when they were on the court. There were moments of excellent passing to find open players. Many times we were able to beat them in transition. The size of the other team was definitely punishing us on the rebounding side, but the girls never gave up! This game showed a promising future for the girls and there is definitely a lot they can be proud of.”

York Eagles v Leeds LDM

U18s Jr NBL Northern Premier

Result: 60-45 (Win)

Players of the Game:

Freddie Marshall – 23pts (x7 3PM)

Sam Walker-Taylor – 2pts/5rebs/2blks/4stls

Coach Kostas Kotidis commented on the U18s performance:

“Last Sunday we had our second instalment in our winning account for this year. Against an LDM team that had the power and the world to pick a fight the boys, demonstrating the spirit of determination that this game will not be allowed to slip away from us reflected in our defence particularly in the first quarter the end result was a satisfying win that we could still have had a lot of points to talk about and improve. Let’s build on them and focus on our target for at least two more wins against Edinburgh and QE so next season, will have a choice of premier or conference.”

Notable performances:

Billy Donaghy – 12pts

York Eagles @ Doncaster Eagles

U14s Jr NBL North Conference 1

Result: 66-73 (Loss)

Player of the game:

Samuel Ho – 22pts/5rebs/5stls

Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14s Performance:

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be… but I am so proud of every single player that played, they gave me everything and credit to the 3 other players who also travelled for our title decider clash. A massive bumper crowd of well over 100+ and they were entertained with an incredible amount of talent for the U14 level, with both teams going back and forth all game with both teams scoring in bursts, especially us in the 4th, where we led by 10pts with 6 mins left, but then struggled to make anything for the next 3 mins which allowed Doncaster to gain points and ultimately the game.”

Notable Performances:

Jack Bishop – 12pts/8rebs/3blks

Caleb Flitcroft – 10pts/9rebs/2stls
