WEEK 12! (XMAS EDITION)

Saturday 14th December

York Eagles @ Leeds LDM

U12 Yorkshire Regional League

Result: 45-30 (WIN)

Players of the Game: Ibsen Ndulue – 7pts/8rebs/3blks

Notable Performances:

Judah Wilson – 11pts/7rebs

Will Hall – 9pts/7rebs/8stls

Coach Adam Wilson commented on the U12 Boys performance:

“Pressure defence and happy offence make a great Eagles team. If we get those right from the jump, we will be killer. We started slow, but finished strong which shows our suicides have not gone to waste! It was great to see the joy the team played with, even when it was tough and felt like we were playing uphill, but my biggest encouragement was the bench to be honest. No one grumbled and they did a wonderful job lifting the team.”

York Eagles @ Teesside Lions

U16 JrNBL Girls North Conference

Result: 84-42 (WIN)

Player of the Game: Maya Foulkes – 29pts/10asts/5rebs (x5 3s)

Notable Performances:

Molly Jones – 16pts/7rebs

Zofia Parsons – 14pts/5rebs/5stls

Danika Croft – 12pts/3rebs

Amelie Hetherton – 11pts/5rebs/3asts (x2 3s)

Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:

“Another fantastic performance by the girls today, showing rock solid team defence for the large majority of the time and some exhilarating team play from the beginning. While the finish was not on our side in the 1st Quarter, we found our shooting boots from the 2nd and scored some beautiful baskets. Team communication was great, and everyone fought really hard for the ball, on both ends of the court.”

York Eagles 3 @ Hatfield Fliers

U16 JrNBL North Conference 2

Result: 48-34 (WIN)

Player of the Game: Sam Smales – 14pts/9rebs

Notable Performances:

Trevor Wood – 11pts/4rebs/3stls (x3 3s)

Freddie Drummond – 7pts/15rebs/2blks

Hayden Fogg – 7pts/7rebs/4stls

Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 Boys 3 Performance:

“We started strong from the tip and moved in front for most the quarter ending 12-5, then Hatfield closed th gap due to our mistakes and turnovers. Everyone on court always gave it 100% as per usual, but we need to improve our shot selection as well as our choice of passing, as our turnovers usually other teams convert into points. We then switched to our more experienced players which got the game back on track for us and eventual won by 12pts. We win and lose as a team.”

York Eagles 2 v Newcastle Eagles 2

U14 JrNBL North Conference 1

Result: 37-114 (LOSS)

Player of the Game:

Raylan Durkin – 14pts (x3 3PM)

Coach James Searson commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:

“We struggled for the first few minutes with the press which Newcastle applied, then we grew into the first half, had some good spells on defence. Was pleased with our hustle and physicality. 2nd half Newcastle started strong which zapped our confidence and energy. Mistakes crept in and they capitalised on them. MVP was Raylan, shot the ball very well and was confident with some of his drives.”

York Eagles 2 @ Sheffield DreamChasers

U16 JrNBL North Conference 2

Result: 64-53 (WIN)

Player of the Game: Alvin Chan

Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 Performance:

“The opponents today were our 1st opponents of the season and we won by 39 points. This game was different of course, they had new players and a different court. We won through adversity with good performances from Ollie, James, and Alvin, as well as some good shooting from Leo when needed. A 4-point half-time lead was then extended further as we grew in the 2nd half, but a nervy 4th as DREAMCHASERS got back within 5. It was a grind out win with still too many players making basic errors and more notably not rebounding enough. However, there was a ‘togetherness’ and the start of some ‘fighting spirit’ that needs to develop to make us stronger. Alvin was MVP as he rebounded and played with energy throughout.”

York Eagles @ Calderdale Explorers

U14 JrNBL North Conference 1

Result: 57-54 (WIN)

Player of the Game:

James Clayton – 11pts/4rebs/3asts

Notable Performances:

Maks Molka – 7pts/3asts/3rebs (x2 3s)

Conor C – 7pts/11rebs/3stls/3blks

Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 1 performance:

“A similar story to our game last week at Teesside, although a better outcome in the result, we lacked identity on offence at times and became reliant on shooting from outside. We need to show our creativity and confidence we do in practice and replicate in games. We still do not communicate enough on either end, as Calderdale set ‘a lot’ of screens which require us to talk and we failed to do so allowing them to hit shots from all over the place. We lacked execution in a few other areas; rebounding was ok, free throws numbers were very low (8/28) and finishing. If we fix those last 3 things I mentioned and add our confidence then we should be winning games like this by 20+ a game. But a win is a win and needed heading into the break 8-2, focusing on finishing runners up in the league but Bradford and Durham will have other ideas.”

Sunday 15th December

York Eagles @ Newcastle Eagles

U16 JrNBL Northern Premier

Result: 73-96 (LOSS)

Player of the Game: Iasonas Morys

Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 performance:

“We are still on the search for consistency. We played really well for short periods but not long enough to control the game and mount the fightback needed. We are working better as a team than at the start of the season, but need to improve our free throw percentage. Ready to get some more wins in the new year!”

York Eagles v Scarborough Seahawks

U18 JrNBL North Conference 1

Result: 105-42 (WIN)

Player of the Game: Eric Boyes – 12pts (x3 3s)

Notable performances:

Travis Greening – 25pts/5stls

Emilis Vildziunas – 19PTS/10asts/10rebs/3blks/5stls – TRIPLE DOUBLE

Lukai Ostrowski – 16pts/5stls

Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18 Men’s performance:

"Going into the Christmas break 10-0 is a great achievement for the team. A strong performance along with great team chemistry has seen us dispatch every team in the league with the exception of our rivals Leeds 1 (still yet to play). Today we started slow with us needing to increase the intensity but after we got going our superior offence took hold. Towards the end, we could have held them to a lower score, but the damage was already done. Some great hustle resulting in turnovers from Lukai and some sharp shooting from Eric backed up a triple-double from Emilis. Our half-season awards go to MVP Travis and our Most Improved Player Ralph."
