Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage

Below is our Wrap of the games that took place in week 11 of the 2023/24 season.
Saturday 16th December 2023
York Eagles v Sheffield Hatters
U12 Yorkshire
Result: 28-75 (Loss)
Player (s) of the game:
Elizabeth Hirst & Fay Fay Ng
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U12s performance:
“This was the U12s/U13s girls’ proper match, and they did a great job considering against a more experienced side. With some of the girls having only joined us a few weeks ago, we were not expecting a win, but they showed great potential and kept improving their game and listening to advice, culminating in a strong 4th Quarter. Yue Fay Ng fought hard for the ball throughout, and Elizabeth Hirst provided the scoring boost that the team needed. Special mention also goes to Alex Dunlop-Gibson, one of our more experienced players who looked after the younger players and kept everyone in high spirits, Coach Abi and I are really proud of all of them!"
York Eagles v City of Leeds Black
U14 Jr NB North Conference
Result: 95-17 (Win)
Player of the game:
Sam Ho – 16pts/6rebs/5asts
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 performance:
“Another good performance from the lads showed real camaraderie with everyone scoring for the 5th game in a row. Some good perimeter shooting from Iker and Lewis. Ball motion was fluid and created scenarios that were very good for us to score in clusters. Look forward to 2024 and see what happens…"
Notable Performances:
Will Poole – 12pts/10rebs
Iker Martinez Chavana – 12pts/6asts/3rebs/4stls/2/2 3PM
Luke Lattimore-Bahrij – 12pts/4rebs
Caleb Flitcroft – 12pts/6rebs/4stls
York Eagles v Derby Trailblazers
U18 Jr NBL Northern Premier
Result: 44-76 (Loss)
Player of the Game: Ben Wells
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U18s performance:
"Both teams were looking for a much-needed win, but we were a little depleted in terms of number, having 3 U16s players play up to make numbers, we were resilient in the first half as we battled to stay with a much bigger Derby side. However, a rejuvenated Blazers started shooting lights out from the perimeter which put the game to bed. Was a pleasure to lead the U18s into a NL game for the first time, hoping the lads the best for the season and hopefully an improved side after the break!"
Sunday 17th December 2023
York Eagles v Northamptonshire Titans
U16 Jr NBL Northern Premier
Result: 98-61 (Win)
Player of the game:
Emilis Vildziunas – 29pts/18rebs/6asts/4blks
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U16s Performance:
“The Final game of 2023 for the U16s prem was one of 2 halves. We allowed a spirited Titans team to stay within reach through some pedestrian defence and lack of application of the press. After a robust team meeting at the half, the team came out firing led by lockdown defence from Lukas. Overloading against their zone got us some easy buckets for Emilis and George around the hoop complemented by some sharpshooting from Ias. By the final buzzer, we were comfortable winners by over 30 points."
Notable performances:
George Andrews – 16pts/11rebs/2blks
Ias Morys – 14pts/6rebs
Lukai Ostrowski – 11pts/2stls
York Eagles @ Leeds LDM
U14s Jr NBL North Conference 1
Result: 32-102 (Loss)
Player(s) of the Game:
Cameron Stewart – 11pts
Griffin Evans
Coach Kris Gladwin commented on the U14s II performance:
“Another expectedly hard game turned out to be exactly that with the boys well beaten on the scoreboard. It should be noted though that this was an improvement on the reverse matchup earlier in the year. We showed the ability to pass and cut to the basket, creating ourselves opportunities. Defensively, we have improved, in terms of fouls, as we only fouled 7 times and the boys often stopped them from driving to the basket. January should be a bit better for the guys as we play Leeds III and play U13s league.”
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
